You can use a configured form in two places:

Variant	Use	Typical mode
Web part on a page	Request form, data entry page, search and edit through the item picker	New item (or the picked item with item picker)
Commands in the command bar of the list	Create, edit and display items directly in the list using the configured form	New, edit, display

The web part

Edit the page and add the web part «SoftForge Dynamisches Formular» via +. The name of the web part is always German, regardless of the display language.
In the property pane (group «Form») you choose where the configuration comes from (see below).
Save or publish the page.

Without the item picker, the web part always shows a form for a new item. You open existing items through the commands in the command bar of the list – or through the item picker.

To configure a web part, the permission to edit the page is sufficient.

Note

According to the package definition, the web part is intended for SharePoint pages, full-page apps and for Microsoft Teams (tab and personal app) on SharePoint Online. The display in Teams is not part of this documentation and was not examined in detail here.

Own configuration or configuration of the list

In the property pane, the switch «Use the configuration of the list» (On/Off) decides where the form gets its configuration from.

Switch	Behavior
Off	The web part stores its own configuration in the page. «Configure form …» opens the configurator. Below it a summary such as «Requests: 3 sections, 12 columns», «Not configured yet» or «The configuration is invalid» is shown.
On	The web part uses the configuration that was saved in the list through the command «Dynamisches Formular konfigurieren». This way you configure a form once and use it on any number of pages. Choose the list in the «List» selection.

Note

With «Use the configuration of the list» switched on, changes to the list configuration affect all pages that use this form. As long as no configuration has been saved for the list, the web part shows the message «No form is configured for this list yet. Open «Configure dynamic form» from the command bar of the list.» (the command itself is labelled «Dynamisches Formular konfigurieren»).

Display: directly on the page or as a dialog

On the Appearance tab of the configurator you decide how the form appears (see also Configuration):

Directly on the page: The form is part of the page, with title and description above it.
A button that opens a dialog: Only a button appears on the page (default label «Open form»). A click opens the form in a dialog.

Four widths are available for the dialog:

The content of the dialog scrolls when the form is longer than the available space.

Item picker

With the item picker, visitors first search for an existing item and open it in the form – for editing or for display only. The setting is located:

with an own configuration on the Source tab of the configurator,
with «Use the configuration of the list» directly in the property pane of the web part.

Setting	Description
Let visitors pick an existing item (Source) or Show the item picker (property pane)	On: visitors search for an item first. Off: the form always creates a new item.
Search and display by	Column that is searched and whose value appears in the result list
Picked item	Open for editing or Display only

How the search works:

Without a search term, the newest items appear (highest ID first).
A purely numeric value is searched as the ID of the item.
Any other text finds items whose value in the search column starts with this text.
At most 50 results are shown. Narrow the search down if there are more.
Editable columns of type text, choice and number are available as search column.

Warning

In large lists (more than 5000 items), text search only works if the search column is indexed (list settings → indexed columns). Otherwise a message appears that the list is too large; search for the ID of the item instead. In the property pane, the web part warns in advance about a search column that is not indexed.

After the selection, the item appears in the form. «Back to the selection» takes you back to the search. After an item has been saved, the form switches to display.

The commands in the command bar

Four commands appear in the command bar of custom lists. The labels of the commands are always German, regardless of the display language.

The forms open in a dialog titled «New item», «Edit item» or «Display item». The width of the dialog corresponds to the «Dialog width» setting of the configuration (default: Large). The mode results from the chosen command and is not configured.
