Field types

The form displays each selected column of the list with a suitable input control. Labels, hint texts (the description of the column as an info icon) and choice values come from the column settings of the list.

AttachmentsAdd, display and delete file attachments. To use them, add the column «Attachments» to the layout of the form.

Note

Column settings such as the choice values, «Allow multiple selections» or the date format are taken from the list. The form displays the fields according to the column in the list – changes to a column type are made in the list.

Unsupported column types

Column types without an input control in the form engine are not displayed in the form, even if they are assigned to a section. This includes in particular:

  • Calculated columns (formulas), system columns as well as hidden and read-only columns – these cannot be added to the form in the configurator anyway
  • Location and Image (thumbnail)

Other column types that do not appear in the table above are not guaranteed. Check unusual column types before using them in the form.

Required fields

Whether a field is a required field is determined by the column setting «Require that this column contains information» in the list. The configurator has no required-field setting of its own.

  • Required fields are marked with an asterisk in the form.
  • When saving, the form checks that all visible required fields are filled in. If a field is empty, «Dieses Feld darf nicht leer sein.» appears and the form is not saved.
  • Hidden fields (through a visibility rule) are not checked as required.

Note

The message «Dieses Feld darf nicht leer sein.» («This field must not be empty.») always appears in German, even when the display language is English.

Further checks

The form additionally checks:

  • Currency and number: An input that is not a valid number is rejected with a message.
  • Date: An invalidly typed date is rejected.

Custom validation rules (for example minimum or maximum values, patterns or dependencies between fields other than visibility) cannot be defined in the configurator. If an error occurs during saving, the form shows the message «Speichern fehlgeschlagen: …» with the feedback from SharePoint.
